Mumbai - The stage is all set for one of the biggest celebrity dance competitions to begin from June 1st
- Jhalak
Dikhhla Jaa on COLORS. Living up to the raised standards of this
Mahamanch and performing in the opening week episode for the first time
on Indian Television will be none other than internationally acclaimed
living exponent of Kathak Pandit Birju Maharaj. To celebrate this occasion, our jury
member and his biggest disciple and fan, Madhuri Dixit-Nene will be seen matching steps with her Guru.
This
Guru and Shishya Jodi will be seen portraying the Indian classical
dance form – Kathak in its purest and finest
form. The audiences will be mesmerized as they are witness to this
never seen before pair dance to the tunes of Piya toh se…, Madhuban mein
and the famous folklore Dhai Shyam Rok Lai. Brightening the stage with
her radiant smile, Madhuri will be seen adding
her charisma in a saffron colored Kathak costume embellished with
beautiful silver work designed by designer Manish Malhotra.
Also seen joining the dance maestro on the Jhalak stage will be his other disciples with whom he performed on a melody
of songs to add to this occasion.
His biggest fan, Madhuri Dixit-Nene will also be seen felicitating her Guru Ji with a Shawl. Overwhelmed and nervous
at the same time on this historic moment, she said,” I was six
years old when I first saw Birju Ji performing. It’s a very special
occasion for me today that I am dancing with Maharaj Ji and I want to
say that I feel his art is as never ending as a rainbow
and if I follow it I will find treasure one day. Birju ji has given a
new meaning to this Jhalak manch and I would want to encourage more
youngsters to learn classical dance forms.
The
mentor-disciple duo also share a close family bond and Panditji even
teaches Madhuri’s children the tabla. Maharaji
nevertheless was glad to share the stage with Madhuri and showed his
love and affection for his beloved student by saying how proud he was of
his quick learner and dedicated student.
Pandit Birju Maharaj has earlier choreographed the actress for many of her movies like
Devdaas and Dil to Pagal Hai. This historic moment that
was the perfect epitome of grace and elegance left the other two jury
members viz Karan Johar and Remo absolutely stunned.
