NK Dhabhar Cancer Foundation

Cancer awareness campaign conducted by NK Dhabhar Cancer Foundation at Rikhiapeeth Ashram at Deoghar Jharkhand.

The Rikhiapeeth Ashram at Deoghar Jharkhand was founded with the aim of doing seva and the motto of serve, Love & Give.  This ashram is situated in one of the most backward areas of India. As part of their service Rikhiapeeth conducts regular medical camps throughout the year so that people in this area have access to medical aid.

The NK Dhabhar Cancer Foundation (NKDCF), provides financial, emotional and social support to people with cancer and instill confidence, hope and courage to the patients and their families. Our endeavor is to promote and integrate cancer treatment for every patient whether curable, palliative or terminal, as we believe every person has a right to live with care and dignity, at any stage of cancer.

NKDCF participated in one such camp for 2 days where we conducted cancer screening and detection. This is the first time cancer screening was conducted at Rikhiapeeth.  A team of 26 doctors, nurses, para- medical staff and volunteers participated in this camp.

 We conducted a full Gynaecological check-up which included liquid cytology for cervical cancer detection and clinical examination by an expert onco-gynaecologist.

The breast detection was done by using an innovative technique call IBreat Exam. This was supported by clinical examination of breast by an oncologist.

Keeping in mind high consumption of Tobacco in this area a detailed head & neck and Full body examination was conducted by a senior oncologist.

All participants were also screened for other physic clinical parameters also investigated.  Medicine was provided to most of participants for different aliments.

In total we screened 261 participants’ males and females of all ages.

Out of these the suspected cases of Cancer were 101 and confirmed cases were 14.

This was an enriching & enlightening experience for an entire team of NKDCF as this is the first time we conducted such a camp. The team was touched by the simplicity & eagerness of participants to be examined by the doctors as this was the first cancer camp in this area.
