FTII, NFAI to showcase films of Dada Saheb Award winners

Pune - On the occasion of the Centenary of Indian Cinema', the Film and Televison Institute of India, National Film Archive of India and Aashay Film Club have scheduled film shows on the eminent personalities who have been honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Pha

ke Awards.

As it is known, the Govt. of India constituted in 1969 the Dadasaheb Pha
ke Award to an Indian film personality for his or her outstanding and multifarious contribution to Cinema. The first personality to be honoured with this coveted award was Devika Rani who had acted in several silent and talkie films as well as produced films for Bombay Talkies along with her husband Himanshu Rai. Since then 42 Indian film personalities including artistes, directors, producers, cinematographers, music composers, singers and lyricists have been honoured with this prestigious award.

The series on Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner films will begin on Monday, August 13, 2012 at NFAI Theatre. Dream Takes Wing's (B&W, 1970, 18min, Films Division), a documentary on Dadasaheh Phalke by Gajanan Jagirdar, will be the inaugural film. This was made by Phalke 'Birth Centenary Commitee' on the occasion of Birth Centenary of Dadasaheb Phalke. The first film to be screened on the occasion is Achhut Kanya ( Dir. Franz Osten, Hindi, B&W, 1936), featuring Devika Rani and Ashok Kumar.

Noted film maker Sai Paranjape will inaugurate the series in the presence of Director, FTII, D J Narain and Director, NFAI Prashant Pathrabe.
